Metas Threads (that censored the Doctors during the pandemic and buried the Hunter Biden laptop upon FBI request) had the biggest (in history) influx of new users in one day. But, (in a week), their users would not stay on the new platform.
Truth Social is under investigation for violating federal securities laws and misleading investors.
X (formerly known as Twitter) is down in ad revenue and told (by the city of San Francisco) to remove its new logo on their San Francisco headquarters rooftop.
It's tough to have a social media company in the 2020s.
Once upon a time, social media was relatively new.
The social media phenomenon began in the new millennium around 2003, and one of the first social media networks to attract [millions of users] was Myspace.
Myspace enabled users to create a personalized wall and have their friends visit their digital wall of likes and dislikes. It was also the place to post pictures, songs, and videos, and it was a digital way of being unique.
Social media shares information.
The information can be truthful, untruthful, or an opinion of the writer. The truth is difficult to ascertain. However, truth [can be found] on (the majority of) national and local news profiles.
Major news publications (have the burden) to ensure the information they release is truthful and accurate. News sources are also famous for printing a retraction in the case of false information released by the news source.
Today, social media provides information, entertainment, and a platform for people to connect with others. Social media platforms support educators [in various ways] of sharing announcements to holding live lectures. Each social media platform offers many ways for classrooms to utilize (Announcements, Lectures) and so much more.
It is [important] to understand the impact of social media on education before using it. But, we are of the firm belief that it will help advance students in technology.
Social media has come a long way since the early days of Myspace. Today, many different social media platforms are available, each with its unique features and benefits. While social media has its challenges, it has also provided a platform for people to connect, share information, and learn.
Surviving in the 2020 market for social media has been a challenge for new media platforms.
The last two years have seen the emergence of new social media platforms such as Truth Social, X, and Threads. These platforms have been trying to make their mark in the social media market, but how have they fared so far?
Truth Social, founded by former US president Donald Trump, has struggled to gain traction.
It is an alternative to Twitter, but it has less than 5 million followers for Trump, the main attraction on the platform. Truth Social has [been accused] of violating federal securities laws and misleading investors. The SEC has been investigating the merger between Trump Media and Digital World Acquisition Corp over allegations of securities fraud and misleading investors.
X, acquired by Elon Musk in October 2022, has a large user base but has faced backlash over its content moderation policies and financial performance. Musk has been implementing cost-cutting measures to make the company more profitable, and X has [been accused] of allowing anti-Semitic content on the platform.
Threads, launched by Meta Platforms (formerly known as Facebook), has been described as a potential "Twitter killer." Threads achieved ten times the number of users of Donald Trump's Truth Social in just 12 hours and surpassed 100 million users in short order, becoming the top downloaded app for a time. However, according to Similarweb, Threads made a big dent in the social media market before fading.
Is it "smart" to start a social media company (now) in 2023? The answer is not clear.
Truth Social and X have faced [challenges] related to revenue, management, and content moderation. Threads has achieved significant user numbers [in a short period] but has since faded.
Investors should consider factors such as the company's financial performance, management, user base, and growth potential when evaluating investment opportunities in these platforms.
Creating alternatives for new media will help spread free speech. Congratulations to all three platforms for expanding the areas to have free speech.
One last point. Meta, the parent company of Threads, censored users during the Covid lockdowns and the New York Post article of Hunter Biden from reaching the masses during the 2020 election. Why are they creating an alternative to Twitter when X is now an open platform? Is Threads going to censor itself? Only time will tell.
