Marketing Adult Dwelling Units

The monologue read by Geno Giovanni on the show The AdHero Podcast

In the 1940s, America experienced World War 2 and won.

The effects created jobs, families, a baby boom, and housing.

America was thriving.

Slowly but surely, housing became scarce.

1 to 2 per household (which is what we have now) compared to the 1940s at 3.6 per household.

What happens? Why do we have less in a household?

More couples stopped marrying.

Fewer families were created.

Single people concentrated on their careers.

Club life.

The Sexual Revolution.

HOOK-UP Culture.

Oh yeah, there were consequences.

Generations past 1940 became less about families even though the average home built was designed for a nuclear family.

Since the 1940s, ADUs or Accessory Dwelling Units were introduced to America.

The Fonz lived in one on the show Happy Days.

Fast forward to the 2000s, in states like California, where there is a shortage of homes being built, you see variations of ADUs attached to properties.

Municipalities lifted regulations and made adding an ADU easier.

WHY?

Well, there are three reasons:

Economical.

Environmental.

And Social.

Cities can leverage existing infrastructure.

Cause fewer pollutants.

And neighborhood dynamics would not change drastically.

There are now 13 million ADUs in the US currently.

All sources in the show notes.

You may be seeing ads for ADUs all over your social media feed. Next, you will see billboards advertising them in a city near you.

The monologue discusses the history of housing in America and how the introduction of ADUs or Accessory Dwelling Units has become an alternative housing solution to address the current housing shortage. The rise of ADUs is attributed to their economic, environmental, and social benefits and the easing of regulations by municipalities. The video can target businesses that advertise ADUs, market them as affordable housing solutions, and attract real estate investment in the housing market. It can also provide insights into the current housing crisis and how ADUs can help address the issue.
